HOW TO WRITE A BOOK, (Of Life)

March 28, 2019

My friend Joe is going to die with his book still in him. I hope that it doesn’t happen soon because he really is a friend and is highly entertaining. But, none-the-less, the book will never get out, and that’s a shame. It’s a shame because he has crazy stories from a storied life. Stories that speak to the human condition. Stories that make you laugh. And a couple of stories that make you wonder. But he won’t write them down. I’ve asked him to. Repeatedly. Even told him that if he wrote them down, I’d use them to write a novel. It would be a good read. But he won’t and when he goes the stories go.

Kim told me that she is going to get back to writing her book. It’s called, “Is My “But” Too Big?” It’s about all of the excuses that we make to avoid doing what we need to do. Like writing a book. She’s been working on it for years, but she’s a serial entrepreneur, is starting a new business, takes care of her family, and tries to have a little time for herself. Did you notice the “but?”

Marcia is excited. Her book is about to be published. It’s about her life experiences as an Army Colonel, head of nursing, and world travels. She hired a self-publishing company to guide her through the process. It will be interesting, because she is interesting, and inspiring because she is inspiring.

Ann and Stephanie have both written their books. Ann’s book is about discovering your roots. She was orphaned as a child, and as an adult tracked down and connected to her lost family. Her book has a happy ending, and now she serves as a life coach and public speaker. Stephanie’s book is about following your dream. She is following her dream of ministry as a Staff Pastor at Aspire Church and continues to encourage others to follow their dreams.

You may be thinking— “But I don’t want to write a book.” But this isn’t about writing a book. It’s about creating a life and passing it forward. Because that’s what a book is—life, life experiences, lessons learned, passed forward. You may never publish a book—but you are, without a doubt writing a book.

I’ve written seven books. One has gone around the world and impacted churches in Africa, Australia, and Indonesia. At least they told me that it did. (One church in Kuala Lampur wrote that they took one idea in “From The Ground Up,” and grew from thirty to three thousand in a year!) Several prominent spiritual and business leaders have told me that a couple of my books are “go to” resources for them. I like writing. I’m still writing. I may never become rich through writing—but I’m sharing life, and experiences, and lessons learned. Because that’s what a book is supposed to do.

When you join me “Behind The Door,” I’m going to tell you how to write a book. Even if you never publish a book you need to write one—but you can write one with your life. Don’t let

your book die with you. Because it’s a five Sunday month I’m going to give you the password. POWERUP all caps. It will change next week. I’ll meet you “Behind The Door.”
